Uttarakhand: All options open for BJP, says Rajnath
Senior BJP leaders are trying to establish contact with Independent MLAs and the Uttarakhand Kranti Dal (UKD).

New Delhi: The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which got 31 seats, one short of the Congress, in Uttarakhand Assembly elections, on Wednesday began efforts to form the government with its senior leaders trying to establish contact with Independent MLAs and the Uttarakhand Kranti Dal (UKD).

The BJP is also in touch with UKD (P) MLA (who is actually close to senior Congress leader Satpal Maharaj) but was denied ticket.

"We are assessing the political situation. In case, the party thinks that it is appropriate to form the government, we will surely stake our claim," said outgoing Chief Minister BC Khanduri as party bigwigs, including Rajnath Singh and Ananth Kumar held talks in Dehradun.

Talking on the ruling BJP's prospect of forming another government in the state, senior party leader Rajnath Singh has said all options are still open.

"We are looking at all the possibilities. Nothing can be ruled out," said Singh.

In case any possibility of the BJP forming government, three BJP MLAs have offered to resign for BC Khanduri, who has lost his seat in the elections.

The kingmaker in the state could be the three BSP MLAs. Will they actually extract their pound of flesh or will they decide who will form the next government in Uttarakhand is the big question which needs to be answered.

BJP leader Ramesh Pokhariyal said, "There is a possibility that we (BJP) too could stake claim to form government in Uttarakhand today. We will decide on this. We expected we would win with a huge margin. Something must have gone wrong."
