Since the advent of social media, photos of celebrities as children have often gone viral and have compelled fans to identify their beloved movie stars. Recently, a photo of a Tamil actress as a toddler alongside legendary actor Sivaji Ganesan has been doing the rounds on social media. The actress herself is the daughter of a veteran Tamil actor and made her debut opposite Thalapathy Vijay. Her father’s first major role was in Kailasam Balachander’s Aval Oru Thodar Kathai. If these hints are not a dead giveaway, the actress in concern here is Vanitha Vijayakumar. The photo of her going viral is from her first birthday as stated by the actress herself in an Instagram post.

Vanitha is the eldest child born to actor Vijayakumar and actress Manjula, his second wife. Two of Vanitha’s younger sisters, actresses Preetha and Sridevi, are also actors. In 1995, Vanitha debuted as an actress in Chandralekha, co-starring with Vijay. The film, which was directed by Nambirajan, was filmed in a small community where Vanitha was forced to make do with subpar circumstances because there were no caravans. After receiving a negative reception upon its premiere, the movie ultimately struggled at the box office, severely damaging Vanitha’s career. After that, Vanitha co-starred with Rajkiran in the 1996 movie Manikkam. She then went on to perform in the Malayalam movie Hitler Brothers (1997) and the Telugu devotional fantasy film Devi.
After her first marriage to Akash, she quit acting to later have a brief comeback in the mid-2010s with supporting roles in Naan Rajavaga Pogiren and Summa Nachunu Irukku. She also appeared in the third season of Bigg Boss Tamil in 2019.
Vanitha and her family had a public fallout in September 2018, when she refused to vacate a family residence that she had originally hired for a photo shoot in Ashtalakshmi Nagar. Vijayakumar, her father, then lodged a police case against her.
