Amazon bans Apple TV, Chromecast sales on its site
The company had announced earlier last month that video-streaming devices sold on its site should be able to work with Prime Video, else it would stop selling those devices.

New Delhi: In tune with its earlier announcement, Amazon has ceased the sales of Apple TV and Google Chromecast on its site in a bid to push its own Prime Instant Video streaming service.

The company had announced earlier last month that video-streaming devices sold on its site should be able to work with Prime Video. However, as neither of the Apple and Google devices support the same, they have been now removed.

Amazon had reasoned,"It's important that the streaming media players we sell interact well with Prime Video in order to avoid customer confusion" .

Along with its own Fire TV, Amazon will still sell other companies' video-streaming devices that are compatible with Prime Video, including Roku, Xbox and PlayStation, but as of now, both the Apple TV and Chromecast are not listed on the site.

While it may seem an anti-competitive move and Amazon could have rather opted for a disclaimer in support policies instead of a blatant removal of devices; it might, on the other hand, help the company push potential buyers to go with Amazon’s own Fire brand.
