Nike is set to bring out its self-lacing sneakers at a price of $720 on December 1. Nike’s HyperAdapt 1.0 will be available across two stores in NYC.
Its first self-lacing athletic shoe available to the general public, Nike has aimed to keep the sneaker lightweight with a black/white-blue lagoon colour, soon followed by metallic silver/black-white sneaker.
The self-lacing mechanism acts much like the way roller blades tighten with automatic buckling.
"When you step in, your heel will hit a sensor and the system will automatically tighten. Then there are two buttons on the side to tighten and loosen. You can adjust it until it is perfect," said Tiffany Beers, Nike senior innovator.
The shoe’s sole sports LED lights and displays the shoe's battery life which is expected to last for around 2 weeks after every charge.
A few Nike+ app users will get an early access on November 28 to purchase the shoe.
Customers can book appointments in the two NYC stores to try Nike’s HyperAdapt 1.0. The shoes will be available in other stores later in December.
