Business tycoon Anand Mahindra is truly an interesting figure to follow online. From motivational posts to enlightening videos, his social media handles are a treasure trove. The industrialist keeps his followers engaged with the right dose of social awareness and humour. This time, the Chairman of the Mahindra Group has something for the movie buffs as he takes a trip down memory lane.
Anand Mahindra shared some trivia from his memory bank on X (formerly known as Twitter). He began by informing that his high school, Lawrence, Lovedale, nestled in the picturesque Nilgiris, has a rich and long history with films, and that it has become a hotspot for directors.
Elaborating further, the billionaire said, “Recently, it’s been the location of ‘The Archies’ and the OTT series ‘Big Girls Don’t Cry.’ But it reminded me that the beautiful, 700-acre campus has ALWAYS been a location favourite. During my school days in the late sixties, it was more for films of the South.”
“I remember being amongst the fascinated kids crouched on the lawns of the school, watching the filming of the Tamil film ‘Nervazhi’ in 1968. We were transfixed because the lead actors — Jaishanker and Vanisree — were in cowboy costumes! After the release of Italian Sergio Leone’s ‘Fistful of Dollars’, the genre of spaghetti western was established. So naturally, when Tamil cinema started following suit, that genre was nicknamed ‘Curry Western!’ Frankly, I’m VERY glad that genre didn’t survive,” he concluded.
