“Money comes money goes,” the 40-year-old Turkish chef, whose real name is Nusret Gökçe, shared the photo of the bill with this caption to his nearly 54 million followers.
People on social media said the lengthy bill was a jibe at hard-working Turks struggling to cope with the 60% rise in inflation and 10% unemployment rate, news agency Newsflash said in a report.
The receipt is from unidentified diners who visited the Nusr-Et Steakhouse Dubai at the Four Seasons resort last week. They were served beef carpaccio, french fries, salad, baklava and fruit along with the luxurious gold-covered meat, including one filet mignon ($270) and three steaks ($1,390).
They also drank with four porn star martinis ($130), two bottles of Chateau Petrus 2009 ($53,900), one bottle of Petrus 2011 ($17,700) and five double glasses of the exclusive Louis XIII cognac neat ($7,500) and also paid tips worth $24,500.
People commented below the post saying that those who splurged the cash lack common sense while another said that they can cook better than the celebrity chef.
A Turkish newspaper, Yeniçağ accused Salt Bae of flaunting his wealth as “citizens struggle to make ends meet with a 3-cent minimum wage”.
Salt Bae went viral in 2017 after a video of him sprinkling salt sensually on a piece of steak went viral. His style of seasoning the stake raked in views and made him a social media star.
He used his online fame and established a chain of more than 20 restaurants. He has served the likes of Leonardo DiCaprio, Fat Joe and David Beckham but has earned the backlash of many for sharing costly bills from his restaurants.
He is no stranger to controversies. The chef was criticised for his antics following the prize distribution and trophy awarding ceremony of the 2022 Qatar World Cup final. He was accused of gatecrashing the celebrations of the Argentinian team.
