Watch: Anti-Israel Protesters Burn US Flags, Unleash Maggots, Clash With Cops Over Netanyahu's Washington Visit
Videos shared online captured the crowd chanting as the American flags burned, with some clips showing the effigy of Benjamin Netanyahu in flames while protesters chanted 'Free Palestine.'

Pro-Palestine protesters on Wednesday removed the American flags outside Union Station in Washington, DC, and replaced them with smaller Palestinian flags. The protesters gathered in response to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s visit to Washington, DC.

A US Park Police captain confirmed to The Hill that two of the three American flags taken down by protesters were set on fire. The demonstration led to road closures around the Capitol and Union Square areas. Protesters were also seen burning an effigy of Netanyahu and called for an end to US military aid to Israel amid the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

Flags, effigies burned

Videos shared online captured the crowd chanting as the flags burned, with some clips showing the effigy of Netanyahu in flames while protesters chanted “Free Palestine.” The protesters also dyed several fountains around Capitol Hill red and projected messages onto buildings, demanding Netanyahu’s arrest as a war criminal.

Maggots Unleashed

According to viral videos on social media, maggots were released on Netanyahu’s table at the Watergate Hotel, and fire alarms were set off to disturb his sleep the night before his visit to Congress. This outrage comes as Netanyahu addressed Congress on Wednesday, aiming to strengthen US support for Israel’s efforts against Hamas and other Iran-backed militant groups. His speech faced boycotts from some prominent Democrats and attracted thousands of protesters to Capitol Hill.

During his address, Netanyahu emphasised the importance of US-Israeli solidarity, stating, “When we stand together, something truly great happens: we win, and they lose.” He wore a yellow pin to show solidarity with Israeli hostages held by Hamas. Netanyahu is scheduled to meet with President Joe Biden and Kamala Harris on Thursday, and with Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago on Friday.
