MBT to build IT township in Pune
MBT has signed a MoU with Maharashtra to build Pune's first integrated software development and residential complex.

Pune: The Maharashtra government has signed a memorandum of understanding with Mahindra British Telecom (MBT) to build Pune's first integrated software development and residential complex.

The state government expects to attract more IT companies for such integrated townships with its friendly policies.

MBT is building a residential park consisting of over 300 apartments and 100 houses for its employees. The Rs 450 crore investment will be spread across 25 acres.

As part of its IT policy, the Maharashtra government has reserved 30 per cent of the IT township in Hinjewadi, Pune, for residential purposes, so that IT companies can set up integrated townships.

The state government believes that its friendly and flexible policies will help in making Pune a knowledge centre.

"In our IT policy we also have a mega project policy. If they need something more than that, there is a committee to decide on a one-on-one basis and the facilities will be provided," Vilasrao Deshmukh, Chief Minister Maharashtra, said.

IT companies like MBT are happy with the red carpet treatment they are getting in Maharashtra. MBT expects to house 18,000 software engineers in the next three years in the 25-acre plot at Hinjewadi.

Karnataka's loss may soon turn out to be Maharashtra's gain. And MBT say that be it Bangalore or Pune, the state government has to create a conducive environment if they want to attract more investments.

Hinjewadi will soon get a special economic zone status if the state government's recommendations are accepted. This means more facilites for IT companies and more investments for Maharashtra.
