ICC Women's T20 World Cup 2024: Asha Sobhana Misses Australia Encounter After Suffering Injury During Warm-up
The BCCI shared an update on its social media account stating that the spinner was ruled out of the clash against the Aussies after she sustained a knee injury during the warm-up session ahead of the game.

Team India spinner Asha Sobhana was ruled out of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 fixture against Australia on Sunday after the 33-year-old picked up an injury on her knee during the warm-up session ahead of the game.

The BCCI shared an update on its social media account stating that the spinner would be unable to take part in the crucial encounter against the Aussies.

“Asha Sobhana is unable to participate in today’s game against Australia after she suffered a knee injury during the warm-up on the sidelines of toss,” the BCCI shared in a post on social media.

Radha Yadav replaced Sobhana in the lineup on the day after the match referee conveyed the situation to the Australian skipper Tahlia McGrath, who agreed to the replacement in the Indian lineup.

“Radha Yadav will replace Asha in the Playing XI,” the governing body for cricket in India added.

“The ICC Match Referee requested the Australian captain who agreed to the request for a replacement in India’s Playing XI,” the BCCI further clarified.

The board also added that the medical unit was monitoring the extent and severity of the injury the spinner picked up just ahead of tee-off.

“The BCCI Medical Team is monitoring Asha’s progress.”

Australia won the toss and opted to have a bat first against the women in blue in the Group A game.

Indian seamer Renuka Thakur picked up a double strike early in the game to give the Indians a quick start to the game as she removed Aussie opener Beth Mooney for just 2 runs off the 7 deliveries she faced. Radha Yadav made no mistake with the catching opportunity offered up by the wicketkeeper-batter.

The pacer doubled her tally with the very next delivery as she sent Georgia Wareham back to the hut for a golden duck as she trapped the Australian plumb in front of the wickets.
