T20 World Cup 2024 Super 8 Group 2 Semi-final Qualification Scenarios: South Africa, West Indies and England

The race for the semi-finals is heating up after the second round of games in Super Eight Group 2 at the 2024 T20 World Cup.

South Africa are top of the table with four points, having beaten USA and England in their two games so far. West Indies are second on the table with one win, followed by England, who both have two points each. SA have a Net Run Rate of +0.625, whereas WI are +1.814 and the Three Lions have +0.412. The United States are bottom of the table with no points on board, have an NNR of -2.908 and have no chance of qualifying for the last four phase of the tournament.

2024 T20 World Cup Semi-final Scenarios:

The last round of matches in the group will see West Indies take on West Indies take on South Africa and England going up against USA.

WI vs SA – Scenarios

• If South Africa beat West Indies, they are through to the semi-finals.
• If West Indies beat South Africa, they are through to the semi-finals.

USA vs ENG – Scenarios

• If England beat USA and West Indies beat South Africa, the team with the higher NRR between ENG and SA will qualify for the semi-finals.
• If England beat USA and South Africa beat West Indies, the team with the higher NRR between ENG and SA will qualify for the semi-finals.
• If USA beat England and West Indies beat South Africa, NRR will come in to play to decide who qualifies for the semi-final.
• If USA beat England and South Africa beat West Indies, NRR will come in to play to decide who qualifies for the semi-final.

With all permutations and combinations, South Africa – who are unbeaten in the tournament so far – can go out after just one loss, provided they lose by a heavy margin to West Indies and England can beat the USA by a big margin.

The first semi-final will be played at the Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad on June 27, while the second semi-final will be played at the Providence Stadium in Guyana later the same day.

The T20 World Cup 2024 final is scheduled to be played at the Kensington Oval in Barbados’s Bridgetown on June 29.
