With the Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-25 season kicking off this month, it’s not just the coaches plotting strategies, but also the fans who have a chance to prove their footballing expertise with the return of the revamped ISL Fantasy.
The ISL 2024-25 season will begin on Friday, September 13, 2024, between ISL League Winners Mohun Bagan Super Giant and ISL Cup Winners Mumbai City FC at 7:30pm IST, on the JioCinema and Sports18 network.
Here’s a detailed guide for every fantasy manager who wishes to build their perfect team and get their hands on the exciting prizes on offer.
Build Your Squad
ISL Fantasy managers receive a budget of ₹100 Cr to assemble a roster of 15 players upon signing up. The breakdown of the squad will be as follows:
2 Goalkeepers
5 Defenders
5 Midfielders
3 Forwards
A user can pick a maximum of three players from a single ISL club. The formations allow reasonable flexibility, as long as your team has at least one goalkeeper, three defenders, two midfielders, and one forward.
Pick Your Best XI and Captain
Ahead of every matchweek, the manager has to select their best starting XI from the squad, naming one captain and vice-captain each.
The points of the captain will be doubled and if the concerned player doesn’t feature in the game, then the vice-captain steps in to take over the leadership duties.
The users also have to strategically arrange their four substitutes, who will be the replacement if a starting player is not named in the first XI of the match.
Transfer Activity
Managers are permitted to make one free transfer every matchweek. If they don’t need to make a transfer, they can roll it over to use in the future, and as many as three transfers can be saved at any given point in time. Additional transfers cost -4 points each.
Points Allocation
Players can earn points for their actions on the pitch. Here’s how it works:
Playing 60+ minutes: 2 points
Goal (GK/Defender): 6 points
Goal (Midfielder): 5 points
Goal (Forward): 4 points
Assist: 3 points
Clean sheet (GK/Defender, 60+ mins): 4 points
Clean sheet (Midfielder): 1 point
Penalty save: 5 points
Successful passes (15): 1 point
Interceptions (2): 1 point
Points are deducted for own goals (-2), yellow card (-1), red cards (-3), and conceding two goals (-1 for defenders and goalkeepers each.
Point Boosters
To help optimise points, managers have five power boosters, namely:
Bench Boost: Comprises points from all substitutes.
Triple Captain: The captain’s points are tripled for one matchweek.
Wildcard: Managers can unlimited transfers without penalty twice per season.
Free Hit: Revamp your squad for one Matchweek without any lasting changes.
Each of these boosters can be played only once during the season.
League Format
Upon building the squad, users can join and create leagues to compete with fellow managers.
ISL League: Competition amongst all registered participants.
Club League: Competitions amongst fans of a particular club.
Private Leagues: Allows users to challenge friends using a private code.
What’s new in 2024-25?
New scoring metrics for every 15 successful passes and two interceptions bring defensive players into the spotlight this season. An increase in salary with limited fluctuations means that managers will have to don a strategic cap all the time.
There will be prizes on offer across four categories, i.e. matchweek, club monthly, playoff, and league winners. There will be 123 rewards for grabs with ISL 2024-25 promising a riveting competition throughout the season.
