Lucknow: In a fresh case of canine attack in Sitapur, an adult was attacked for the first time by feral dogs during the day. Till now, children have been the only victims in the stray dog menace. The death toll has reached 14, thus far.

On Saturday, a 55-year-old woman who was identified as Shivrani was attacked by a pack of three dogs, when she went to the field at around 2:30 pm. She was rescued by the villagers and was admitted to district hospital for treatment.

The victim said, “One of the dogs attacked on my neck, while the other attacked on my leg. I fell on the ground and started screaming in pain after which villagers rushed in and chased away the dogs.”

As per District Magistrate Sitapur, Sheetal Verma, “We have received the news of 55-year-old woman Shivrani being attacked by dogs. I think there are only 4 to 5 such dogs left in the Khairabad area of Sitapur and it's quite possible that they might have attacked Shivrani.”

Meanwhile, the Sitapur district administration has asked the villagers to tie a piece of red cloth around the neck of their pet dogs in order to differentiate them from the attacking ones.

A nine-year-old girl died on Thursday, after being mauled by dogs in Sitapur, despite the precautionary drone-night vision measures taken by the administration to check the menace.

Last week, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had instructed his administration to keep a tab on stray dogs. The Chief Minister visited the families of the deceased children and announced ex-gratia amount of Rs 2 lakh for the victims' kin.
