KOCHI: The Kerala High Court on Friday sought the view of the state government while considering a petition seeking a directive to stop the use of amplifier mike and loud speaker for conducting prayers and recitations except for call for prayer (Adhan) in mosques. The court passed the order while considering a petition filed by K T Musthafa and Abdul Nazar of Thiroor against the use of mike by the mosque of Pariyapuram Muslim Jama-ath. “There is serious sound pollution through the high pitch sound amplifier of the optional prayers. The use of loudspeaker has been affecting the lives of my family members, which include newborns, students preparing for examinations and aged parents. “Under the provisions of Environment Protection Act and Noise Pollution Regulation Rules, it has to be stopped,” the petitioner submitted.
