HYDERABAD: The BJP Parliamentary Party Board has urged Congress-led UPA government to convene a special Parliament session after the on-going monsoon session, to discuss the current status of the agricultural sector including the crop holiday by the state farmersBJP described the crop holiday as a new form of farmers’ protest and said that it would pose a threat to National Food Security (NFS) and the modal development programme which has been taken up by the UPA governmentBJP alleged that rampant corruption and negligence towards the agricultural sector is an indication of bad governanceThe party, which has decided to raise the crop holiday movement in the present Parliament session, said the movement has been continuing in nine districts of coastal Andhra and Rayalaseema regionsBJP senior leader Rajnath Singh along with BJP state president G Kishan Reddy toured several areas of East Godavari district and prepared a report to discuss the issue with the CentreAddressing a press conference here on Wednesday, Rajnath Singh urged the state government to provide loans with zero per cent interest rate which they could later increase from one to three percentHe said that the minimum support price should be increased to `1,830He said that the Swaminathan committee recommendations should be implemented and that Centre should start a farmers’ insurance scheme to provide them with price securityHe added that the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme should be integrated with agricultural worksEarlier in the day, a BJP delegation under the leadership of Rajnath Singh met chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy at his camp office and submitted a memorandum which focused on the current situation of agricultural sector in state“The chief minister said that the government would take necessary action on the crop holiday movement after receiving the committee’s report,” Rajnath Singh told reporters
