CHENNAI: A functionary of the Bharatiya Janata Party was murdered behind the Koyambedu market on Friday night. Police suspect the hand of two brothers, one of whom owed money to the deceased, behind the killing.Police said they recovered an unidentified body of a man with cut injuries all over his body behind the market on Friday night. The man was later identified as Vittal (35) of Sai Nagar, Virugambakkam, who was the 127th Ward secretary of the BJP, police said.Upon investigation, police found that Vittal had loaned out money to many vendors at the Koyambedu market and would regularly visit the place to collect the interest amount.Police sources said that Vittal had lent Rs Two lakhs to a vegetable vendor, Sundarapandian, a year ago and the latter had not returned the money despite Vittal’s repeated visits to his shop. Further, the vendor had incurred a loss in his business and was working in the shop belonging to his brother, Murugan, at Velachery. Vittal had reportedly visited that shop and has asked Sundarapandian to return his money.Police said they suspected the hand of the brothers and two other accomplices. The brothers are absconding and the police were looking for them.
