CHITRADURGA: The latest progress report released by the Ministry of Rural Development and Panchayat Raj ranks Chitradurga in first place in the state.A copy of the report available with Express shows that Chitradurga district achieved 64 per cent progress in implementation of rural development programme, whereas Mandya district is in the last position with progress of just 25 per cent.MGNREGA (Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Generation Act), Grama Swaraj, Suvarna Gramodaya, PMGSY (Prime Ministers Grameen Sadak Yojana), Namma Grama Namma Rasthe, CMGSY (Chief Ministers Grameen Sadak Yojana), SGSY (Swarn Jayanti Gram Swarozgar Yojana), RWS (Rural Water Supply Scheme), TSC (Total Sanitation Campaign), WGDP (Western Ghat Development Programme), NABARD road works and Jal Nirmal are the schemes taken to assess the progress of programmes in the district.Chitradurga ZP has spent Rs 114.65 crore out of Rs 178.67 crore available at its disposal, thereby taking the district to achieve 64 per cent development till October.Dakshina Kannada stands second with 58 per cent progress followed by Raichur 57 per cent and Kolar 56 per cent.Chitradurga ZP CEO N Jayaram told Express: “When I took charge, Chitradurga was in 16th position. I expedited the work in a strict and transparent manner, with support from subordinate officials.”“I also implemented the Panchayat Raj Adalat, every Saturday at all offices and review of progress every month at ZP auditorium has helped in fast movement of files. We settled bills quickly on completion of works,” he elaborated.Jayaram said the top position will boost the confidence of officials and help in achieving more during the coming days. I attribute this progress to all the officials who strived hard in taking the district to this position, he added.“The progress of SGSY was slow till October. It has been speeded up and in the next three months we are planning to reach 100 per cent,” he said. Congratulating N Jayaram and team, ZP member from Rampura constituency HT Nagi Reddy said: “It is due to the combined effort of ZP officials that we are in top position. They should continue the tradition and achieve greater heights.”
