KOCHI: In an effort to connect Vallarpadam-Willingdon islands, a boat service has been launched. Excise Minister K Babu inaugurated the new boat service linking the two islands on Monday. The boat service is being jointly operated by the Cochin Port Trust, India Gateway Private Limited and the Customs House Agents Association, on a contract basis.Port Trust chairman Paul Antony, deputy chairman G Krishnakumar, trustees P M Mohammed Haneef and C D Nandakumar along with the heads of various departments and representatives from the industries also attended the inauguration. The new service will be beneficial to hundreds of employees travelling between Willingdon and Vallarpadam islands to various offices at the Cochin Port Trust. The service can be used by the public as well.The newly launched boat service will shuttle between Baggage Jetty at north-end of the Willingdon Island to the jetty near Goshree bridge at Vallarpadam terminal. The services made available from 8 am to 8 pm everyday. The travel between the two islands will take about 15 minutes and the fare will be Rs 5. A total of 16 services will be operated everyday.
