26-yr-old Tanvir from Bharimatha, Surat has no criminal record.

New Delhi: The Surat police on Wednesday arrested a bakery owner in the city for planting bombs across the city that sent investigative agencies into a tizzy in the aftermath of July 26 Ahmedabad blasts.

Twenty-six-year-old Tanvir Pathan from Bharimatha area of Surat has no criminal record but police say he had recruited five to six people for planting the bombs across the city last month.

Tanvir was arrested after Sahid Mansuri, one of the key accused in the Ahmedabad blasts case, revealed his name during interrogation.

Around 25 bombs were found all over Surat last month and successfully defused by the bomb squad.

Some of the bombs were found hanging from trees and hidden inside hoardings and near police outposts.

"Police have cracked the case, that's why we are here to inform media about it. We will tell you about the arrests too," Surat Police Commissioner R M S Brar.

Investigation into the Ahmedabad serial blasts, which killed at least 49 people and injured 200 on July 26, focussed on three persons who were detained while travelling in a ‘Wagon R’ car from Surat to Surendranagar.

British currency amounting to Rs 2,00,000 and Rs 85,000 was found concealed beneath the car seats.
