Johannesburg: South Africa's Super Sport Series champions will play in the inter-zonal Duleep Trophy tournament in India next year.
Chief Executive Officer of the South African cricket board, Gerald Majola said that the decision to this effect was taken in a recent meeting.
''The Board of Control for Cricket in India has invited Cricket SA (Pty) Ltd to send a suitable team to compete in one of India's premier competitions, the Duleep Trophy. The invitation comes after talks I had on the sub-continent recently with the Asian Cricket Association on forging closer links with Africa and South Africa.''
''The invitation is for us to send a team to compete for an initial three-year period, starting with the October 2006 tournament,'' he added.
''Cricket South Africa's management committee decided at its meeting yesterday to accept the invitation and that the winning franchise team in the 2005/6 SuperSport Series will compete at the tournament.
''We believe that competing against India's top zonal teams will add considerable value to raising the standards even higher in our franchise cricket'', Majola said.
