New Delhi: The charge of the red brigade in Jehanabad may have left the entire nation shocked but the Naxals are finding some sympathy amongst students in the Jawahar Lal Nehru University (JNU).
JNU has traditionally been a bastion of the red and many students are supporting the Jehanabad jail attack.
Members of the Democratic Students Union of India and the Progressive Students Union which have their roots in the Naxal philosophy say with that with the class struggle in Bihar intensifying, an attack like the one on Sunday night was waiting to happen.
And that is not all. Some students have gone so far as to say that seen in this context, the killing of nine Ranvir Sena men is completely justified.
President Progressive Student?s Union, Samar Pandey said, "Class struggle and exploitation have been rampant for a long time in Bihar. The state and the Ranvir Sena are the most violent institutions."
He added that the Ranvir Sena member who had been killed in the Jehanabad jail was in charge of the killings in Bathe when 58 Dalits and members of backward classes were killed.
President Democratic Student?s Union Jitender Singh said, "Anyone who has a job will never go for guns. It?s just the existing social relations that are compelling these poor people to defy the state."
Most students say they now fear a backlash from the Ranvir Sena cardes and hope that at least this time around the Bihar administration is not taken by surprise.
