Karnataka government wanted to make Kannada a compulsory language in unaided schools at the primary level.

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday referred the matter to make Kannada a compulsory language in unaided schools at the primary level to a higher Constitutional bench. The apex court said there needs to be more clarity over what is a mother tongue.
