BANGALORE: Jakkur Ward is one of the big wards of Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) spreading around 24 square kilometres. The residents of this ward have been demanding BBMP authorities to complete asphalting of many roads that were dug up to lay drinking water pipes, as well as under ground drainage pipes. For example, the road opposite Government Primary School was dug to lay water and UGD pipes but after completing that work, the authorities concerned have forgotten to asphalt the road. It was alleged that Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) had collected deposit money from the residents more than six years ago for the supply of drinking water but till date nothing has come into action except laying pipes. “I have paid ` 10,000 more than six years ago to the BWSSB. They have laid the water and UGD pipes but neither water supplied nor the residents are allowed to avail the UGD facility,” said R Narayana Gowda, a resident near Government Primary School, Jakkur.Vinayakanagara, Dwarakanagara, Katigenahalli, Kogilu, Noor Nagar, Sampigehalli and Agrahara are some of the important areas of this Ward. Residents complain about no bus shelters in this ward. For instance, many students wait for BMTC buses at Jakkur and Navyanagar Junction with no shelter in these bus stops. The students as well as residents want the BBMP to construct a bus shelter at this place. “It will be difficult for us to wait for BMTC busses in monsoon and summer. I do not know why BBMP authorities have failed to realise the need for construction of a bus shelters here,” said Sudharani M, a college student. There are number of vacant sites near Bharath Seva Ashram. Most of these sites are covered with weeds. “It will become difficult for us to stand for a while in front of our houses due to mosquitoe menace,” said a housewife on condition of anonymity. However, K A Muneendra Kumar, Corporator of Jakkur Ward, said that efforts were being made to asphalt as many roads as possible. Kumar said the BBMP had allocated ` 6 crore last year for various developmental projects at Jakkur Ward. “The BBMP dug 24 borewells to supply water. It is not that there is no shortage for water but the residents have to bear with shortage of water whenever a few borewells need to be repaired,” said Kumar. When asked about the worst condition of roads, the corporator said that ashpalting work will be taken up as soon as the BWSSB completes laying of water and UGD pipes.A few residents blame the BMMP for digging mettle roads on the pretext of asphalting those roads. “The BBMP authorities said that they would asphalt the roads but nothing has happened till date. It will be difficult for us to use these roads in monsoon,” complained a resident on condition of anonymity. The corporator has assured to loo kinto the matter.
