HYDERABAD: The Nehru Zoological park saw a record footfall on Sunday with 24,000 visitors thronging the zoo. Zoo officials revealed that it was the highest footfall in the 60-year history of the zoo.“On an average, about 5,000 people visit everyday. On Sundays the number goes up to around 8,500. But on Sunday, May 29, 24,000 people visited the zoo,” said K Shekar Reddy, curator of the Nehru Zoological park. He added that on a normal day the zoo's collection is around Rs 90,000. On other Sundays, it is around Rs 1.40 lakh but on this Sunday, the collection from visitors touched Rs 3.25 lakh.On Sunday, zoo authorities increased the number of security-men from 15 to 25 to keep a check on visitors.Shekar Reddy attributed the unusual rush to the end of summer vacation, with a great number of parents and children visiting the zoo on Sunday.
