NLUO to join Common Law Admission Test

CUTTACK: National Law University, Orissa, (NLUO) has finally decided to join Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) of 2012. The decision was taken at the meeting of the University Executive Council chaired by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Faizan Mustafa and attended by members Justice Indrajit Mohanty, Advocate-General Ashok Mohanty, former VC, National Law School of India University, Bangalore, NL Mitra, Orissa State Bar Council chairman Gopalkrishnan Mohanty and VC of Ram Manohar Lohiya National Law University, Lucknow, Prof. Balraj Chauhan here. NLUO, which came into being in 2009, had been conducting its own admission tests till date. The admission tests had, in fact, gained acclaim of top evaluators of law tests from across the country. The response of students and aspirants had also been significant with the University  attaining national stature. It now has students from 28 states. Even as the number of students appearing in its own entrance test had been increasing, the Executive Council has taken a stand to become a part of the mainstream law entrance test because of the latter’s standing.  However, the basic differentiating features of NLUO is its integration of knowledge by adopting an inter-disciplinary approach where a student from a Social Science stream can opt for a management course and vice-versa will continue to exist. The niche courses in Mining Law, Food Law, Water Law, Energy Law, Agricultural Law and Legal Journalism will be hallmarks of the university. The NLUO has also launched an integrated  Ph.D-LLM programme that  provides LLM degree as a by-product of Ph. D Research.
