New Delhi: Confusion over nursery admissions in the capital continued, on Monday as a meeting to sort out differences between the government and private schools ended without any decision though a minister said they were expected to come out with the guidelines on Wednesday.
Private school managements are insisting that the existing 100-point system devised by the Ashok Ganguly Committee three years ago be retained during the admission process while the HRD Ministry has advocated selecting students through draw of lots.
They also demanded the management quota be retained. The private schools are opposing the lottery system tooth and nail and insisting on retaining the point-based system.
After a meeting of private school managements with Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, Delhi Education Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely told reporters that a "middle path" between random selection and point system is being finalised.
"As per the Right to Education Act, there should be random selection. HRD ministry has been requested to clarify on random selection. The response is expected to come tomorrow and the guidelines are likely to issued on Wednesday," he said.
Sources said the HRD Ministry has also been asked to clarify whether private schools can have management quota.
Last year, private schools had a management quota of 20 per cent.
