Porsche Teen Driver Needs to Be Tried as Adult, Will Move Higher Court: Pune Police
Pune Accident News: Sources said that Pune accident accused, in his statement, mentioned that his father was aware that he had gone partying and drinking, and he had the car too. Police will now question the father.

The Pune Municipal Corporation and city police will soon initiate action against bars, pubs and restaurants that operate beyond permissible time limit, sources told News18, adding that there are two pubs under police radar and managers of both these outlets have been detained.

Sources further said that Pune accident accused, in his statement, mentioned that his father was aware that he had gone partying and drinking, and he had the car too. Police will now question the father, who was arrested from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar on Tuesday.

The accused, a 17-year-old boy driving Porsche car — who the police claim was drunk at the time after consuming liquor at a bar — knocked down two motorbike riders in Kalyani Nagar area in the early hours of Sunday, causing their death.

“A non-bailable section, 304 IPC, was applied in the case on the afternoon of Sunday itself. It was not just a simple case of 304 A, which is normally applied in accident matters. The court was moved on the same day for permission to try the juvenile accused as an adult under Section 15 of Juvenile Justice Act since the ghastly incident was a ‘heinous crime’ as defined under Section 2 of the Juvenile Justice Act with the objective that he doesn’t get bail,” Pune police commissioner Amitesh Kumar said.

“Despite our best efforts, the court disallowed our application and granted bail to the accused. We have appealed against this order before the higher court. The Pune Police reasserts that the action taken was the most stringent course possible. We shall strive to take the case to its logical conclusion with the objective of the accused getting the harshest possible punishment,” Kumar added.

The Juvenile Justice Board’s decision to grant the youngster bail on the same day while asking him to write an essay on road accidents has drawn criticism.

“The CCTV footage of the bar clearly shows that the juvenile was consuming alcohol. There is no doubt that the juvenile was driving the car after consuming alcohol. We will be submitting all these facts to the court,” commissioner Kumar said.

“We have also registered an offence against his father under the Juvenile Justice Act, and against the proprietors of the bar establishment for serving alcohol to an underage person. We have transferred the probe of these cases to the crime branch,” he further said.

Police displayed professionalism while dealing with the case, Kumar claimed. “The case was transferred to an ACP-level officer and it is our endeavour to make a watertight case. We will appoint a special counsel in this case,” he added.
