Priya Dutt accuser's case thrown out of court
Victory in the upcoming by-polls may still be a dream for Priya Dutt, but she secured a symbolic victory at the Bombay High Court today.

Mumbai: In a move that spells huge relief for Priya Dutt, daughter of former Union Minister Sunil Dutt, the Bombay High Court has ordered the man who filed a law suit against her to pay her damages for not being able to justify the grounds for his petition.

The court ordered Rakesh Arora, an independent candidate who brought a petition against her, to pay Dutt and her husband Owen Roncon Rs Five thousand each. The court directed Arora to pay costs after he failed to justify not just the urgency of his petition but the grounds for it as well.

says Nilanjana Shah, Counsel for Priya Dutt and her husband, "He was unable to justify the grounds of the petition. The honourable court has directed him to pay even exemplary costs."

But despite the penalty Arora remains defiant.

"She is misguiding the public with a wrong name. She has done nothing for the people and is using her father's name to get votes," said Rakesh Arora.

Even R N Kachave, Arora's lawyer maintains that not using her husbands name was wrong on Dutt's part.

Arora has also named the Union of India, the State of Maharashtra and the Returning officer of the Election Commission as respondents in his petition. He has now been directed to pay five thousand rupees to each of these parties as well.
