Nainital: Hinting that Rahul Gandhi will lead party campaign in the crucial UP Assembly polls early 2007, Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Sunday said that he will be "active" in the state.
"Yes, he will be active in Uttar Pradesh, perhaps before the election starts or even earlier. He has been going to UP," she said.
The Congress chief said that Rahul also accompanied her in the party's election rally in Kanpur and Bareilly.
"Our party is gearing itself in UP. In the past few months there has been quite a good deal of improvement," she said, referring to the electoral prospects of Congress in the state.
Rahul had spearheaded the poll campaign of his mother in Rae Bareilly from where she was re-elected to the Lok Sabha with a record margin of victory after she quit the seat in the wake of the Office of Profit controversy.
Gandhi said that the party has divided the state into eight zones and appointed leaders to head each zone.
"This exercise is bringing some results because there is much more direct interaction between our senior representatives of our party and the party workers at the grassroots level," she added.
