The funeral procession Brahmeswar Singh turned violent with supporters burning police outposts and private vehicles.

Patna: The funeral procession of slain Ranvir Sena chief Brahmeswar Singh alias Mukhiya from Arrah to Patna turned violent with the participants burning police outposts and private vehicles, damaging police and private vehicles and blocking busy Bailey Road for several hours.

The procession shouting anti-government slogans covered a distance of 40 km from Ara to Patna and was participated by hundreds of followers and supporters.

Sena supporters, who turned up in a large number of vehicles including motorcycles, stopped at Bihta, Danapur and Saguna More and blocked the busy Bailey Road for several hours throwing the vehicular traffic out of gear.

They also blocked roads at several places between Arrah and Patna.

In Bhojpur district, where Singh was gunned down on Friday, an uneasy calm prevailed with heavy security blanket spread to tackle any eventuality, official sources said adding police patrolling was intensified in Arrah town.

The state was put on a high-alert since the killing and Director General of Police Abhayanand and senior police officials met in Patna on Saturday morning and reviewed the situation. Bihar BJP president C P Thakur and a few BJP MLAs went to Bihta to pay floral tributes to Singh and participated in the funeral procession at some places along the route.

A few persons in the procession misbehaved with Thakur and pulled him out of his vehicle at Bihta, official sources said.

They also threw stones on his car and Bikram MLA Anil Kumar was reported to have been injured in the stone-throwing. A police vehicle was also damaged in the stone-pelting.

They later burnt down a police outpost near IPS Mess and vandalised several private vehicles.

Ranvir Sena Chief was gunned down by unidentified gunmen at a place at Nawada in Bhojpur district when he was on morning stroll on Friday.

The DGP had set up an inquiry headed by a DIG rank officer to probe the case and submit report within a month.

RJD supremo Lalu Prasad, his LJP counterpart Ramvilas Paswan and state Congress leaders have demanded a CBI inquiry into the murder.
