CHENNAI: The imparting of quality education along with values is imperative if India is to take advantage of the demographic dividend it currently enjoys, Tamil Nadu Governor K Rosaiah has said.“India is a very populous country with abundant human resource. But to make the best of this resource is in the hands of schools. Our schools need to make the right blend of academics, culture, character and personality development and include these factors in the syllabus,” said Rosaiah. “Secondary education should not be merely viewed as a means to prepare the students for higher education or as a stepping stone to a degree course,” the Governor added. His comments came at the 26th Annual Day celebrations of the Chettinad Vidyashram School, titled ‘Adithya Vandanam’. Rosaiah distributed medals, gold coins, certificates, books and cash prizes to the school’s students, who had achieved distinction in the fields of academics, sports and arts.He released the school’s annual magazine, ‘Vision’, and handed over the first copies to Chettinad Vidyashram’s president MAM Ramaswamy and secretary Meena Muthaiah.
