New Delhi: Pointing at the possibilities of the prospective Indo-US nuclear deal, former Indian ambassador to US and nuclear negotiator Rakesh Sood on Saturday emphasised on the commitments to take the relationship between the two countries forward and operationalising the civil nuclear cooperation.
The former ambassador also lauded former US President George Bush. According to Sood Bush was committed to a strong India which would provide stability in the region and beyond. He said "Stability is very important. PM Modi is taking it forward".
CEO of Business Council for International Understanding Peter Tichansky also endorsed Sood's views. He said "George Bush's trip to India changed all that. There is a positive aspect now". He added that Indo-US relationship is once again 'high on people's mind".
The ambassador further discussed the progress in Indo-US nuclear deal. "Nuclear cooperation plateaued, partly because of India's 2010 nuclear liability bill," he added.
The pannel included Vikram Singh (former US assistance secretary of defense), Rakesh Sood (former ambassador and nuclear negotiator) and C Raja Mohan (distinguished fellow of ORF) along with American experts Rick Rossow (Centre for Strategic and International Studies) and Peter Tichansky (CEO of Business Council for International Understanding).
In the lead up to President Obama's historic second visit to India, The Observer Research Foundation and Network 18 have initiated the India-US Dialogues.
