Why Single-screens In Telangana Are Closing Down For 10 Days
The Telangana Exhibitors and Contractors Association secretary has confirmed this news.

No Telugu or Hindi blockbusters are slated to be released in these summers in Telangana to cover the daily operational expenses of theatres. Amidst this scenario, the Telangana State Single Theater Association has decided to shut down single-screen theatres across Telangana for ten days (May 17 to 25). Telangana Exhibitors and Contractors Association secretary has confirmed this news while talking to NewsTap. This decision has shown how the film industry has faced a grave challenge from the ongoing Loksabha 2024 elections and the Indian Premiere League as well. Another factor that added to the decision to close the cinema halls is the already-released films facing a box-office slump. With less footfall in the cinema halls due to the above-mentioned reasons, the owners have decided to shut down the single-screen theatres for a specific time. There are 250 single-screen theatres in Telangana and the summer is generally considered a profitable season for theatres.

Vijayender Reddy, President of the Film Exhibitors Association, shared his opinion regarding the ongoing situation. Reddy said that there has been a significant decline in the audience turnout. Reddy added that the single-screen theatre owners are incurring massive expenses. The expenditure incurred on screening the films is said to be higher in comparison to the box-office collections. According to him, if the producers come forward to help the owners in running the theatres, these can be re-opened early.

The multiplexes have not opted to completely shut down the operations. Instead, they have reduced the number of shows. After May 25, the single-screen theatre owners will observe the situation and then decide about the reopening. As per the reports, the majority of them are not likely to reopen even after ten days. It is because the situation may not improve for them this month.

The situation is expected to improve with a lineup of some much-anticipated films. These movies include titles such as Love Me, Gangs of Godavari, Harom Hara and Satyabhama. The films of many other stars are under production and the owners will have to wait longer for their release at the cinema halls.
