Sushmita Sen remains one of our favourite actresses till date. She is known to captivate her audience with powerful screen presence. The actress, who made a comeback with her fearless performance in the web series Aarya, is awaiting the release of Aarya Antim Vaar. The final instalment of the crime-thriller drama is slated to release on February 9 on Disney+ Hotstar. Now, in an exclusive interaction with PinkVilla, Sushmita has shared her insights on topics ranging from her experience of being perceived as a difficult individual in the 90s to whether she felt she missed out on anything after her career hiatus.
Sushmita Sen on her career break
Speaking to the entertainment news portal, Sushmita Sen opened up on anything that she thought she missed out after her long break from showbiz. Calling her previous ventures ‘bad’, the actress said that at times, one needs to break the routine in life. Her last film before Aarya was No Problem which was released in 2010 and starred Anil Kapoor, Suniel Shetty and Sunjay Dutt among others.
Delving into her years of experience, Sushmita went on to add that something is being churned out every day like it is done in a factory and that someone is just going through the motions with no passion and inspiration. “No I didn’t because the kind of work that I was doing as an actor was really bad. Like really bad. If you have seen some of those films, you will know exactly what I mean. So, sometimes you have to stop the autopilot in your life. Koi cheez roz ek factory ki tarah churn kar rahi hai aur aap wahi kaam kare chale jaa rahe ho with no passion, no inspiration, no sense of purpose (You are constantly churning out something every day like a factory, and you’re just going through the motions with no passion, no inspiration, no sense of purpose),” the Bollywood diva expressed.
The actress further noted that she made a conscious decision to stop the routine. “Ye nai karna hai (I don’t want to do this),” she said, adding that the scripts that came to her were neither exciting nor outstanding. The former Miss Universe said that she didn’t realise how eight years went by as she became a mother of two. “None of the scripts that came to me were exciting, no work came to me that was outstanding, so maine chod diya and 8 saal kaise nikal gaye pata hi nahi chala because I became a mother for the second time and Alisah came in and she took up all my time.”
Sushmita mentioned that she spent her time running the jewellry store they owned and didn’t really miss out on film opportunities during that time.

Work-wise, Sushmita last appeared in Aarya Season 3 Part 1 in November 2023. Now, she awaits the release of Aarya Season 3 Part 2. Aarya revolves around a strong woman trying to protect her family against crime.
