Bollywood’s stalwart Amitabh Bachchan celebrates his 82nd birthday today. In his more than five decades of successful acting career on the silver screen, Amitabh Bachchan has acted in numerous hit films. However, there was a time when Big B, as Amitabh Bachchan is called by his fans, was rejected in the All India Radio audition due to his heavy and deep baritone voice.
He even made his debut in the entertainment industry with a voiceover in the film Bhuvan Shome directed by Mrinal Sen. This film was released at the cinemas on May 12, 1969, and as per the reports, Amitabh Bachchan received only Rs 300 for his work. However, he went on to establish himself in the entertainment industry with his amazing acting prowess in the films Saat Hindustani, Anand, etc. The biggest turning point in his career was the 1973 film Zanjeer directed by Prakash Mehra which made his image famous as an angry young man.
Besides the voice, Amitabh Bachchan had to face problems in his life due to his tall height as well. According to the reports, many heroines refused to work with him because of his height. However, this issue didn’t remain a problem when the Zanjeer actor became a star. There is another interesting anecdote associated with Amitabh Bachchan’s height. He was rejected from the Air Force due to his tall legs.
The 82-year-old actor revealed it in one of the episodes of the Kaun Banega Crorepati season 15. The Zanjeer actor told a candidate that he used to meet a Major General of the army who lived right across from his house in Delhi. According to Amitabh Bachchan, “He approached my father (Harivansh Rai Bachchan) one day and told ‘I want this lad. I’ll ensure he becomes an Army Officer.’ I thought I’d do that. I did attempt it, but it was futile.”
Amitabh Bachchan said that he also wanted to join the Air Force. According to Amitabh Bachchan, the Air Force rejected him on sight saying I had long legs.
Amitabh Bachchan’s films have given the Bollywood industry many reasons to be proud of. The 82-year-old actor continues to leave an ever-lasting impact on the audience’s hearts with his impeccable acting skills.
