Ramoji Rao's Ramoji Film City, spread over an area of about 2000 acres in Hyderabad, is reportedly worth Rs 20,000 crore.

Media baron Cherukuri Ramoji Rao, head of Ramoji Film City and ETV Network, died July 8 morning in Telangana’s Hyderabad. Rao, chairman of the Eenadu Group, was undergoing treatment at the city’s Star Hospital and took his last breath at 3:45 am.

As per the reports of 2021, his assets are officially estimated to be at $4.5 billion (Rs 37,583) crore. Ramoji Rao’s property included the ownership of the Ramoji Film City, his most well-known creation to date. The value of Ramoji Film City, encompassing an area of about 2000 acres in Hyderabad is reportedly Rs 20,000 crore.

Ramoji Rao is survived by his wife, Rama Devi and his son Cherukuri Kiran following the passing away of his younger son Cherukuri Suman, a decade ago. Ramoji Rao’s eldest son Cherukuri Kiran is the managing director of the Eenadu Group of Companies. daughter-in-law Sailaja Kiron is the managing director of Margadarsi Chit Fund, one of Ramoji Rao’s ventures. His younger daughter-in-law Vijayeshwari is the Managing Director of Ramoji Film City.

The late media baron headed the Ramoji Group comprising many business firms under his label, i.e.- entertainment to retail and education. These include the Eenadu Newspaper, ETV Network, Ushakiran Movies and ETV Bharat. Ramoji Rao’s business ventures also included the Margadarsi Chit Fund, Dolphin Group of hotels, Kalanjali shopping mall, Priya Pickles, and Mayuri Film Distributors. In 2016, the media baron was awarded the Padma Vibhushan, India’s second-highest civilian award by then-President Pranab Mukherjee for his contributions to literature, journalism, and media.

The late ETV Network had also received four Filmfare Awards South, five Nandi Awards and a National Film Award for his works in Telugu cinema. He bankrolled about 50 films and telefilms in his lifetime. Ramoji Rao was also known to have close relations with former Andhra Pradesh chief ministers NT Rama Rao and Chandrababu Naidu among several other political and film personalities. According to a report published in The Wire, Eenadu was seen as the mouthpiece of the Telugu Desam Party when the party was formed in 1982.
