Mouni Roy Says Brahmastra And Sultan Of Delhi Helped Change People's Perception Of Her
In a recent interview, Mouni Roy discusses her evolving career and credits Milan Luthria for visualising her in different roles.

Mouni Roy began her journey with the iconic show Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi and continued to make her mark in the industry with popular shows like Naagin, Sati and Mahadev, where she played simple saree-clad characters. Later, her roles in films like Gold and Made in China showcased her versatility. However, it was her appearance in Brahmastra that became a turning point in her career. Along with that, Mouni has been garnering positive responses for Milan Luthria’s web series, Sultan of Delhi, where she portrays a cabaret dancer. In a recent interview with Indian Express, she discusses her evolving career and credits Luthria for visualising her in different roles.

The actress said, “Brahmastra was absolutely different. When you see Gold, RAW and Made In China, I had played very Indianised characters. Maybe after Naagin and Sati, people could only see me as a ‘saree-clad Indian character’. So, for Milan sir to think of me as this cabaret dancer Nayantara, at a time when Brahmastra had not even released. I think it is an exciting time to be an actor where makers can visualise you in different roles. Such great parts are being written. I really feel fortunate to be offered these parts and be able to play them on screen.”

Mouni Roy further expressed that she was eager to play the role of Nayantara in Sultan of Delhi as she has never played such characters, with different shades. She highlighted the value of having a director like Milan Luthria who truly understands his actors. According to Mouni, Milan provides actors with the freedom and space to bring their characters to life and give their best performances. She would often bombard the filmmaker with questions and he would attentively listen and respond.

Speaking about Brahmastra, Mouni admitted that her character Junoon changed things for her in a positive way, as people began to notice her acting abilities. Having been looked in a certain way due to her previous roles in Naagin and Sati, Mouni shared that Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt starrer provided her with the kind of role she had been waiting for.

“I don’t think it’s just Brahmastra. I have been one person who’s been working for 15 years, almost 16 years now. I have never stopped. I think that has taught me everything I need to learn in my journey. I need to keep working. When you keep working, somebody will see you somewhere, think of you in a certain character or role,” Mouni Roy added.

In the same interview, the actress claims she has an exciting lineup of projects. While she is eager to share the details, she’s currently for the makers to make the official announcement.
