Amaravati Will Be The Sole Capital Of Andhra Pradesh, Says Chandrababu Naidu A Day Before Swearing In As CM

A day before his swearing-in as Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief N Chandrababu Naidu on Monday announced that Amaravati will be the state’s sole capital.

Naidu made this announcement during a joint meeting in Vijayawada with TDP, BJP and Janasena legislators, where he was unanimously elected as the NDA leader in the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly.

“In our government, there will be no games under the guise of three capitals. Our capital is Amaravati. Amaravati is the capital,” Naidu declared at the meeting.

As the first chief minister of the newly bifurcated Andhra Pradesh from 2014 to 2019, he initially proposed Amaravati as the capital city.

However, this vision faced a setback in 2019 when the TDP lost power, and YS Jagan Mohan Reddy’s YSRCP won a landslide victory.

Reddy scrapped the Amaravati capital plans and introduced the concept of three capitals, which Naidu has now overturned with his decision to establish a single capital.

The Naidu-led TDP, which contested the 2024 Lok Sabha election in alliance with Pawan Kalyan’s JanaSena Party (JSP) and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), has returned to power after defeating the incumbent Jagan Mohan Reddy-led YSR Congress Party (YSRCP).

The TDP alone won 16 MP seats in Andhra Pradesh, while the NDA alliance of TDP, BJP, and JanaSena collectively secured a total of 21 out of 25 seats.
