Karat said whenever the fuel price rise was effected by the Centre its ally TMC contended that it was not consulted.
Panihati: CPI(M) General Secretary Prakash Karat on Sunday predicted a hike in the prices of petrol and diesel by this month end.
"The Centre may hike the prices of petrol and diesel in the last week of this month after the current parliament session is over," the senior CPI(M) leader told a party rally at Panihati in North 24 paraganas district in West Bengal.
In a dig at the Trinamool Congress, he said whenever the fuel price rise was effected by the Centre, TMC which was an ally of the government, contended that it was not consulted.
"TMC is part of the government but whenever there is rise in the prices of petrol, they would claim that they have not been consulted (by the government)," Karat said.
