Lucknow: Alleging that Samajwadi Party is acting against national interest, the BJP on Thursday termed as "politics of minority appeasement" the move to introduce a bill in Uttar Pradesh to revoke false cases lodged against Muslims.
"The move to leave those who are held for their involvement in terror activities is against the national interest. It is an act of Muslim appeasement for vote bank politics," BJP state president Surya Pratap Shahi said.
Samajwadi spokesman Rajendra Chowdhury had on Wednesday said that Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has decided to bring in a bill to revoke cases lodged against "innocent" Muslim youths for their alleged involvement in terror activities and provide them suitable compensation.
Reacting to reports in some newspapers that attempts are on to withdraw cases against Tariq Kazmi and Khalid Muzahid, arrested for the 2007 Lucknow, Faizabad court blasts, Shahi said that the ruling party was taking decision based on communities, which was not a good practice.
The Uttar Pradesh BJP chief also criticised the state government's decision to provide Rs 30,000 each to poor girls from Muslim community only.
