The program is based on the same concept as the Windows Insider Program, which gives users insider access to new features coming to the firm's operating system.

Microsoft has launched a Skype Insiders Program allowing users on any platform (Windows, Android, macOS and iOS) to volunteer to test upcoming functions being developed for the famous software.

The program is based on the same concept as the Windows Insider Program, which gives users insider access to new features coming to the firm's operating system.

With this new cross-platform program, Microsoft is seeking fast user feedback from thousands of testers all over the world.

The aim is to correct bugs, of course, but also to evaluate the quality of upcoming innovations before rolling them out once and for all.

Once signed up, volunteers can download and install alternative versions of Skype still relatively unstable featuring exclusive new functions. However, Microsoft hasn't yet detailed any of the functions in the pipeline.

Skype lets users stay in contact with family and friends all over the world with free voice and video calls (up to 25 people at once). Plus, like any messaging service worth its salt, it now has a chat function and lets users share photos, videos, emoji and more.

Skype for Windows takes things even further with an automatic translation tool, called Skype Translator, compatible with 50 languages for written messages and eight languages for audio.

What's your reaction?
