Three employees from a team resigned for better opportunities, but their departure did not sit well with the boss, who responded with a “tone-deaf” email. The boss extended the notice period to three months and implemented a salary deduction. Additionally, the employees were instructed to train their replacements and take on an extra 30 hours of overtime per week until new hires are found and fully trained.

A user with the handle “@quitbytext” shared a screenshot of an email with the subject line “Urgent” on Instagram’s Threads.

In the email, the boss expressed anger after three employees resigned simultaneously, citing “better opportunity”. The boss criticised their decision, stating that the employees failed to consider how their departure would place an additional burden on their colleagues.

“Your ‘better opportunities’ (doubtful. we pay you all fair wages) are really worth affecting your team members’ quality of life? I myself have children and instead of being at their band recital this week I will have to be sitting at work posting job offers on Indeed instead. This is outrageous. You all need to speak amongst yourselves and plan these things out so you don’t leave a company high and dry all at once. The lack of consideration from employees I previously had a different impression of is astounding,” the boss said in the email that was sent to all the employees.

Additionally, the boss announced updates to the company’s employee handbook. Under the new policies, departing employees must now serve a three-month notice period and face a pay reduction during this time.

“You will give 3 months notice and train your replacement in the mean time, and your 3 months notice will serve as your consent for your base pay to be lowered by $6/ hour. Since you will be leaving your reduction in pay should be no issue. That’s how this works from now on. You can thank your insubordinates for this. You can also thank them for the extra 30 hours of overtime per week you will be assigned to until I find new hires and they are fully trained,” the mail further read.

Here’s how people reacted to the post here:

“And now we know why three people quit at once in an absolutely coordinated move. Someone should send this to the local labor board,” commented an individual.

Another added, “I wouldn’t even respond. $6/hr is illegal and I’d sue.”

“I’ve heard that people leave managers, not jobs. This guy is out to prove it,” said a third.

A fourth joined, “And of course if the company wants to fire them, they will give them 3 months notice as well.”

“This is wild. I’ve already got another job to go to and I’ll be going there tomorrow instead,” wrote a fifth, echoing the thoughts of employees.
