Music: Sajid-Wajid
Lyrics: Danish Sabri, Irfan Kamal
Sajid-Wajid the unquestionable regulars in everything to do with Salman Khan have gone all out to come up with a score that's quite entertaining for the superstar's home production, 'Dolly Ki Doli'. Going by the composing duo's track record they have managed to come up with at least a couple of decent compositions for "Bhai" of Bollywood.
Heading the pack is "Phatte Tak Nachna" which is anchored by Sunidhi Chauhan's improvisations that keeps you hooked to the song. "Fashion Khattam Mujhpe" penned by Irfan Kamal sung audaciously by singer Mamta Sharma the orchestration borders on cacophony with extensive usage of sibilant sounding shehnai, clearly not a lounge song this, it gives you ear-fatigue. "Babaji Ka Thullu" the ingenious catchphrase coined by standup comedian Kapil Sharma found its way in the recording studio. The composition could have done with zanier instrumentation the number does fall short of expectations because of the uneven pace of the song, though it might be played on a loop in the popular TV show.
The title track is dark in its mood and is a departure from the set pattern of wedding songs we are accustomed to hearing. The overall feel of this Sajid-Wajid composition has traces of Amit Trivedi sound as we have heard in Trivedi's earlier soundtracks like 'Dev D' and 'No One Killed Jessica'.
The showstopper is the finely crafted Rahat Fateh Ali number "Mere Naina Kafir Hogaye." The ballad has all the trappings of a Rahet Ali and Saji-Wajid team combination song with sitar, harmonium and alaap, embellishing the composition. What keeps you mesmerized to "Mere Naina Kafir Hogaye" is Rahat Fateh Ali's semi-classical touch to a romantic number, which would have sounded bland coming from a lesser singer.
The songs are attention grabbing in the movie promos and they do pique your curiosity for the soundtrack of 'Dolly ki Doli' that has its moments of substance and fluff. Few of the numbers don't hold your attention beyond the first minute of its playing and you trail off as the songs offer little variation in the overall production and rendition of the songs. The numbers that retain its charm from the beginning to the end are "Phatte Tak Nachna", and "Mere Naina Kafir Ho Gaye."
